Why Use Ozone?
Author Unknown
Ozone is an extremely potent oxidant, a form of energized oxygen
produced by ultraviolet radiation or electric discharge.
Ozone is highly reactive having "unanimity" as to its
destructive action on microorganisms, acting blindly since no
limits to its disinfective properties have been found. It is
antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral and kills protozoa.
Ozone breaks down hydrocarbons to carbon dioxide and water, even
rendering the notorious DDT harmless. The many uses of treating
drinking water and swimming pools were developed in Europe
decades ago and are spreading commercially throughout the world.
Medical Ozone has been in use for decades and is safe when used
in microdoses both topically and internally. It has universal
application on all infectious agents, skin disorders, allergy,
chronic fatigue, debility, etc.
Ozone is easy to administer transdermally and by insufflation,
taking only minutes.
Ozone is economical - generated from ordinary bottled oxygen
available anywhere.
Sanitizing and Deodorizing Ozone can be generated cheaply from
ambient air and used to purify drinking water, disinfecting
utensils, and deodorizing and sanitizing office air (most
valuable during flu season).

Abstract: The therapeutic and practical utility of OZONE gas is
a greatly overlooked and ignored modality. The vaporized gas is
anitfungal, antibacterial and antiviral, being nature's greatest
oxidant and antibiotic. The case of clinical application by
rectal or vaginal insufflation, vaporized plastic boot, or ozone
bath provides greater therapeutics than hyperbaric oxygen at a
fraction of the cost. In these respects, no alternative medical
clinic should be without an ozone unit. In short, no doctor
should be without a unit for the safety and hygiene of him or
her self, staff, and patients.
IMPORTANT POINTS IN THE ROLE OF OXYGEN
1. Most of the body's energy is generated through oxygen.
2. Two hundred years ago, ambient air was estimated to be 38%
oxygen and 1% carbon dioxide. Today it is less than 20%
oxygen and 25% carbon dioxide. In urban traffic, oxygen
content can drop as low as 6%.

WHAT IS OZONE?
1. Ozone - 03 - is triatomic Oxygen. Ozone is an extremely
potent oxidant. It is produced by electric discharge in air
(as in lightning), or by ultraviolet radiation, as in the
"ozone layer" of the atmosphere. Fresh air contains a small
amount of ozone. Ozone is energized oxygen and can occur in
chains as high as 010 when exposed to ultraviolet light.
2. Since ozone is highly unstable and cannot be bottled, an
ozone generator must produce ozone on site. Ozone is
produced when air or bottled oxygen is passed through a high
energy field.
3. Sanitizing and deodorizing ozone can be generated cheaply
from ambient air and used to purify water and air,
disinfecting utensils, drinking water, rooms, fixtures,
furniture, carpets, walls, etc.
4. Ozone is a highly reactive molecule, capable of oxidizing
hydrocarbons and organic matter, including rendering the
notorious DDT to carbon dioxide and water. Therapeutically,
it detoxifies. Domestically, it cleans the air of
infectious and noxious agents, and purifies drinking water.
HOW IS OZONE PRODUCED ?
1. Nature creates ozone by solar radiation ionizing oxygen at
high altitudes. The earth is protected from ultraviolet
radiation by this layer of ozone. Destruction of this ozone
layer by chlorofluorocarbons (CFC's) and Nitrous oxide
allows more of this ultraviolet radiation to reach earth and
adversely affect plant and animal life, and contribute to
increased skin cancer and cataracts in humans.
2. Ozone is also produced by electric discharge. Nature
purifies the air by lightning. High voltage discharge
through air produces ozone found around copying machines,
electric trains, and other appliances.
3. Ozone is also formed when hydrocarbons and nitrous oxides
react with each other in the presence of sunlight. The bad
press you may have read "ozone is toxic" is only because it
is associated with these reactions. The ozone index is only
an assay to estimate how much toxic nitrous oxide and
hydrocarbons are present. Contributing to this method of
ozone production are automobiles, factories, refineries, and
chemical plants.
OZONE IS SAFE AND NON-TOXIC
Ozone produced in air with electric discharge also generates
nitrogen dioxide which is actually the most toxic component
associated with ozone gas. Ozone is used medically in low
dosages of micrograms per milliliter. In high concentrations,
ozone is toxic to the lungs epithelium and is therefore not
administered medically through air or nebulizers. Small amounts
of ozone in air is a fact of nature and can be used as a
sterilizing or sanitizing modality. The Maximum Worksite
Concentration laid down in Germany is 0.2 mg/m3 over a
respiratory period of 8 hours. This is equivalent to .15 ppm
while the odour threshold is .010 - .015 which is the odour
threshold for most people. The irritation level of .06 ppm has
shown no evidence of health damage by continuous exposure to
lower concentrations.
The following Pam values apply:
.12 EPA limit for air quality
.10 American Conference of Governmental Industrial
Hygienists limit for exposure 8 hours/day with no
side effects.
.055 Underwriters Laboratory (tic) ozone limit for
electrostatic precipitators.
.03-.06 Amount frequently measured in city smog.
.010-.015 Odor threshold for most people.
.005 - .01 Value measured in fresh country air.

WHY USE OZONE ?
The many uses of treating municipal water and swimming pools,
which have been developed in Europe, are expanding into other
continents of the world. Ozone treatment of industrial waste
waters is being practiced commercially. Ozone treatment of
lakes, ponds, and fisheries now has wide scale benefits, both
economically and environmentally. And medical and esthetic
therapeutic application of ozone are being practiced more and
more routinely in many countries. In short, ozone is a wave of
the future.
Ozone will oxidize odorous compounds at a level of one-eighth of
the limit established by the American Conference of Governmental
Industrial Hygienists. Most odoriferous substances are
unsaturated molecules that will readily combine with oxygen.
Ozone breaks down hydrocarbons ultimately into carbon dioxide
and water. An ozone air purifier does not mask odors with
synthetic perfumes or halogenated substances. It oxidizes them
as does nature.
Unanimity has been gradually established since 1886 (De
Meritens) as to ozone's destructive action on microorganisms.
Ozone may be said to act blindly, as a broad spectrum
antibiotic, since no limits to disinfection have been found in
the number of general and species eliminated. In contrast to
the toxic amines of fungi, ozone does not have an inhibitor
effect on intracellular enzymes.
Nowadays, pesticides contribute to water pollution like
detergents, hydrocarbons, or any other chemical. Reverse
osmosis and distillation does not remove 100% of these
compounds. Their persistence contributes to degraded water.
Organophosphorus and organochlorinated compounds are reducible
by ozone in aqueous solutions.
Medical ozone, produced from ordinary oxygen gas, is used in
medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, and in the treatment
of cancer and AIDS. It has become routine practice for hundreds
of physicians worldwide seeking more effective means of
treatment without chemical toxicity and side-effects. Studies
have shown that ozone properly administered, inactivates
viruses, bacteria, fungi, protozoa, and in some cases,
carcinomas.
A report in Discover Magazine states that every six room house
collects 40 pounds of dust per year, which plays host to 15
species of mites in beds, pillows, furniture, and dust balls.
42,000 of these mites can survive in one ounce of mattress dust.
Doctors, nurses, and receptionists are exposed to untold
millions of airborne viruses and bacteria through droplet
sneezing, human dander, excrete, etc. Studies have shown that
ozone purified air reduces the incidence of colds, sore throats,
and allergy attacks, especially during the flu season. By
frequent ozonation of office air, once or twice daily, greatly
reduces a chance of infection. In this light, an ozone
generator becomes an office companion, just as essential as a
distilled water cooler.
HOW DOES OZONE THERAPY WORK ?
In view of the fact that no safe and effective anti viral
treatment by chemicals is known, excepting some plant extracts
with variable specificity, ozone and its peroxides acquire
special importance as they are atoxic in effect and free of
undesirable side-effects. Due to ozone's inactivation process,
it plays an active part in the viral infection cycle and
increase in phagocytosis. In addition to this, a protective
effect on healthy cells and an increased elimination of virally
damaged cells is observed.
According to researchers, the direct intravascular injection of
pure oxygen/ozone mixtures results in the following responses:
1. An activation of enzymes involved in peroxide or oxygen
radical scavenging - glutathione, catalase, super oxide
dismutase.
2. An acceleration of glycolysis in erythrocytes.
3. Citric acid cycle activation.
4. An increase in blood P02 , fluidity, and pliability.
5. Bactericidal, virucidal, and fungicidal properties.
Laboratory studies have shown that when ozone is introduced into
the blood in microgram doses, it is immediately converted into
hydroperoxides which are free radical scavengers (glutathione,
catalase, super oxide dismutase, etc.). They have shown
remarkable antibacterial and antifungal effects. Through
reaction of ozone with the phospholipid chains in the cell
membrane, lipoperoxides are introduced into the cell and
influence its metabolism.
The first intracellular reaction is the glutathione system
brought on by the oxidative stress and sets off the peroxide
detoxifying function. As a result, there is an increase in the
enzymes participating in oxygen metabolism, notably glucose - 6
-phosphate.
It is believed that these hydroperoxides actually seek out and
destroy diseased cells and accounts for ozone's anti-tumor
properties. Infected cells have lower levels of enzyme activity
and are less stable. The hydroperoxides readily react with the
cell membrane lipids. In vivo studies have shown (Erhlich)
hydroalkylperoxide has a 90% growth inhibitory effect on mouse
ascites carcinoma. In particular, polyunsaturated fatty acids
whose peroxides are ascribed a selective cytotoxic effect and
have growth inhibiting effects in human lung, breast, and
prostate cancer cells.
